ProjeCt #1
Course project! The « Carton Project » consisted, as the name suggests, of creating an entire scene using cardboard! An intriguing texture work, entirely done in Photoshop. This project provided an opportunity to craft a unique universe. I began with abstract inspirations to allow myself maximum creative freedom. The choice of composition aims to highlight the isolation and loneliness of each character. I deliberately used over-framing multiple times with boxes and tape to emphasize the sense of isolation. Lighting enhances the feeling of confinement. In addition to the enclosure they experience, it suggests that a door is opening, hinting that they are prisoners of someone… or something. The damaged cardboard and the stain attest to their condition. Secondary characters are subtly illuminated by a small light to keep them from being in complete shadow. To accentuate the realism of the scene, I focused on details such as irregularities at the junction of different cardboard planks and the peeling tape. Each character has a different posture and form, each possessing their uniqueness and distinct personnality. Nevertheless, they are connected by a shared history…
Project #2
Course project! This project served as the final-year project for my preparatory class. It involved creating a universe with three chosen constraints. The project had to fit within a specific time period, a designated country, and the world of a particular tale. In my case, I chose Sinbad the Sailor in Turkey during the 17th century.
I enjoy combining painting and 3D in my work, and this project is one of the initiators of that approach!
PROJECT #3
First architecture project! It also marks my first engagement with vegetation. All textures are created in Photoshop, similar to the cardboard project but more complex in my opinion. The requirement here was to design a modern or Bauhaus-style building. For the challenge, I opted for a somewhat damaged house to deepen the knowledge gained from previous projects.
Project #4
The Ikea project was a rich learning experience for me. The goal was to reproduce a photograph from the website of the same name. This process involved the meticulous setup of lighting, manipulation of contrasts, and handling shadows and reflections. These steps, although complex, are, in my opinion, the most captivating aspects of the 3D creation process. The magic of the scene comes to life when each element is carefully adjusted to recreate the atmosphere of the original photo. Playing with light to create realistic shadows, emphasizing certain details while toning down others, and reproducing reflections authentically are crucial aspects that breathe life into the scene. It’s in these precise adjustments that the magic happens. The ability to capture the essence of an existing photograph using 3D techniques is an extremely stimulating experience.
Projet #5
As I explained earlier, I really appreciate painting. Here, it’s an interior created in digital painting on Photoshop. My usual process involves initially laying out my illustration in grayscale, and then gradually adding color. In my opinion, conceptualizing things first in grayscale is a real strength. On one hand, it allows for a better understanding of volumes, as the grayscale palette helps define shapes and reliefs. On the other hand, working in grayscale contributes to a deeper understanding of how light functions. The nuances of gray help capture the interplay of shadow and light, facilitating the creation of a realistic atmosphere. This process offers a methodical approach to refining each detail progressively. It also allows for the creation of a solid foundation before introducing the color palette, ensuring visual coherence and depth in the final artwork.
